SEO Case Study: Abbey Locks

Who are Abbey Locks?

Abbey Locks is one of our most loyal customers. The St Albans based locksmith has been operating in St Albans, Watford and the North London area since 2017. Mark and the team came to us wanting to expand their range of clients within areas in North London and wanting to build their online presence while establishing authority in the locksmith niche.

After launching a new website and implementing a local SEO strategy, Abbey Locks has achieved position 1 rankings for many customer searches in St Albans, Watford and the North London area.

What we did

Abbey Locks approached us in need of help building their online presence and authority. First off, we undertook a website audit and realise that his current site wasn’t up to the task. It was fairly slow, it didn’t work on mobiles and it didn’t reflect the company’s brand.

We re-built the Abbey Locks site on WordPress and made sure the theme was mobile-friendly, not just responsive. Our belief is that customers in need of immediate locksmith services will look up locksmiths closest to them on their phones. Making sure the website is mobile-friendly was important to the success of the website and business overall.

The Locksmith SEO strategy

Keyword research is the foundation of any SEO strategy. Finding the correct keywords to rank for is not only important so that Abbey Locks can rank well on Google, but also important so that we can bring the right target customer to the site.

We also backward-engineered competitors to understand what keywords they were ranking for and how we could overtake them. After completing this keyword gap analysis, we were ready to craft the content that would help take us to the top of the first page.

We did so by producing blog content in the form of security advice, crime trends and customer case studies. We also undertook numerous link-building campaigns to boost authority further.

Finally, due to the coverage area that Abbey Locks operates in, we implemented a local SEO strategy to ensure we appeared for town-based searches, as well as more general search phrases. A key part of our local SEO strategy involved building out Abbey Locks GoogleMyBusiness page and pushing to collect customer reviews. Capturing reviews builds trust in your business, which creates more authority on Google.

Mark Grainger, owner of Abbey Locks says: “When meeting Matt from Grasshopper and after having several bad experiences with other companies over the years, I was impressed with his honesty and willingness to help me. It was refreshing to find a company that was focussed on results and its clients’ needs.”

Every step of the way he has been tweaking and improving our website and SEO while adapting to our changing situation. As a result of the increased workload, we have grown from a 1-man band to a company employing 5 full time staff and 50 sub contractors. The results speak for themselves.

If you’re searching for a marketing company online and are confused by all the jargon and false promises like I was, I encourage you to speak with Matt or one of his team, very easy to deal with and they get the job done!”
