Who is Bond Rees? 

Bond Rees is a private detective and tracing agency, founded in the UK but now with offices around the world. They specialise in people tracing, surveillance services, bug sweeping and asset tracing. 

The private detective sector is a very competitive field. Bond Rees had previously gone down multiple avenues independently to get ahead of the competition and to improve their online presence and reach. 

After these attempts proved unfruitful, they contacted the Grasshopper team. Having seen our results with other clients, they decided they needed specialised help to make them a leading player in the private investigations industry and to generate more enquiries for key services. 

What we did 

The Digital Audit


The first step in improving Bond Rees’ online presence was for us to conduct a detailed digital audit to understand the current digital and sales performance, including strengths and weaknesses The audit enabled us to pinpoint where improvements needed to be made, including missing keywords and gaps in their content, and immediate opportunities for growth. 

The audit revealed that the company had produced many pages using AI that targeted very small towns and villages across the country. Rather than help Bond Rees rank highly in search results, these AI-generated pages had the effect of pulling the whole website down and lowering the company’s content quality and authority. AI content also runs the risk of being penalised by Google further down the line, so it is not a good foundation to build a business on.  

We also identified that most of the services lack a supportive content structure and that key service pages were poorly presented, meaning they would struggle to attract and convert enquiries. Ranking pages in Google is fine, but the pages need to be attractive and have key trust signals that will make customers want to do business with you.

The SEO strategy 

Following the audit, Grasshopper formed a custom SEO strategy designed to improve Bond Rees’ online authority and grow their sales traction in specific areas. The first thing we did was to trim down some of those excess pages and consolidate them into single service pages based on much larger areas, such as London, Newcastle or Bath. This helped Bond Rees target multiple towns and cities with a single high-authority page while preventing multiple pages from weighing down the website.

Next up was to improve the design of the pages to incorporate video, stronger visuals, key messaging, and an improved user experience. Nearly 80% of Bond Rees’ visitors come from a mobile device, so assessing and enhancing the mobile experience was key to improving conversion and overall sales performance.

Another key element of our SEO strategy was to create ongoing press releases for Bond Rees. When news sites or other websites pick up a press release they create high-authority links back to the site,  which helps improve a brand’s authority. 

Finally, to build trust with their clients, we also created multiple ‘real life’ case studies for Bond Rees from stories of their past jobs. For bigger jobs we turn these case studies into blog posts to supplement other blog content we produce for the website. Case studies are a great way of showcasing skills and expertise of a business, which is often overlooked.

Results

The results speak for themselves. We delivered an 1800% return on investment for Bond Rees within 6-months, and the business is going from strength to strength. 

Enquiries rose by over 250% but, more importantly, the quality of enquiries improved. Private investigations are an industry that attracts people who need a solution to a problem but who do not have the finances. Our revised strategy targeted a more specific customer for all services, which meant the enquiries were warmer and more likely to pay for the Bond Rees expertise. 

We also tapped into the lucrative commercial market which enabled Bond Rees to generate enquiries around fraud investigations, background checks, and process serving.    

Once we had built a solid foundation for the UK business, we started attacking other locations, including the USA, Canada, India, Thailand, UAE, Spain, Portugal, Germany and France. Many of these locations have proven fruitful and have generated substantial revenue to date. 

Thanks to our SEO strategy, Bond Rees is now a market leader in the UK and in various international locations for tracing services and private investigators. They are also ranked number one for tracing agents in the UK.
